Services began in garage of Royal Gilman


April 15, 1972

Articles of Incorporation and By-laws written

April 25, 1972
Articles of Incorporation and By-laws approved

April, 1972

Secured $18,000 Mortgage from Mid-State Federal to construct church and purchase of furniture and piano. Organ Donated

July, 1972
Two acres donated by Chassahowitzka Retreat
July 23,1972

 

Broke Ground.
Work was primarily done by Royal Gilman, his family, other volunteers and one hired man.

August 1, 1972 Volunteers - Royal, Gale and Villet Gilman began construction
August 7, 1972 Royal and Violet Gilman went to Ocala to order furniture.
August 9, 1972

New songbooks were used for the first time.

Oct. 3-Dec 3, 1972 Finish work completed, pews and other furniture installed, organ, piano and rug.
Dec. 3, 1972 Church Dedicated.
First Service held and the First Christian Church of Chassahowitzka became the first church in Chassahowitzka with a capacity of 170 people, three classrooms, kitchen and a nursery. Emmett Welsh, Bob Truitt and Royal Graham conducted the services.
December, 1972 First Board of Trustees were Robert Truitt, Royal Gillman, Travis Teal and Emmett Welsh
June, 1973 Hired Al Kleinfeldt as part-time Minister and held two church services. Paid the Pastor $30 a week.
October, 1973 Provided a Parsonage - a three bedroom 1 1/2 bath mobile home with a mortgage of $5,000
Attendance average was 35 with offerings averaged $85/month.
Monthly expenses were $480 which were offset by neighboring churches.
December 18, 1984 Mortgage paid.
February 17, 1989 Congregation had 42 members.
